Salford Schools FC BU16 and FC Heat Coastal League BU17 team, kick-off at 7:30pm at Ryan Park at Hidden Trails in Escondido, California.
In 2014 Salford Schools FC and FC Heat struck up a great camaraderie when Salford visited Ryan Park for the first time. They have since decided to make this trip on an annual basis.
Salford Schools FC are from Manchester in England, the heart of English football and are proud to carry some of the brightest young stars from their area. In their 2014 team there were a number of players already under contract with professional teams in the English Football League. Their coaching is second to none, led by Head Coach Harry Hackett, Salford has a team of great young coaches.
The 2014 game was indeed a spectacle, American close control and individual skills versus British old school aggressiveness and innovative tactical play. At half-time the referees in charge requested that the sideline be moved back because of the ferociousness of the players’ tackles. Although it was a friendly, numerous yellow cards were issued, but at the end of the game, players from both teams shared high-fives and memories in a great show of sportsmanship. Salford ended up winning 3-0.
“This game was a fantastic opportunity for our younger teams to see how the game can be played at its best,” said Steve Yorke, Director of Coaching of FC Heat, “Some of these young players play every game like this, giving over 100% every time, friendly or no friendly, because their future could depend on their last performance.”
Prior to the exhibition game, the FC Heat’s GU18 team will play one of their rivals of the year in a pre-game, the Carlsbad GU18 team.
