Amani Walker Named NPSL Player of the Week
Amani Walker of Albion SC PROS has been named NPSL Mitre Player of the Week after leading his club to a dominant victory in Week 9. The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country. It is awarded every week during the regular season.
NPSL Soccer News: Albion SC PROS forward Amani Walker has received Mitre National Player of the Week honors for the ninth week of the 2017 NPSL season.
“Amani Walker has been working really hard to get back into form coming off his injury a couple years ago. This is a tribute to all his hard work and I am happy to see him finding his stride,” said Ziggy Korytoski, Albion PROS, Head Coach.
“It’s an honor to get Player of the Week,” said Walker. “It was a full team effort. You know, being up six at the half it obviously wasn’t just me, but we came out with a goal and I think we accomplished it. I was in the right position to be able to prosper and to get those goals.”
Walker scored a hat-trick in Albion’s 7-3 victory over City of Angels FC. He has recorded four goals and one assist on the season.
“It was well-deserved,” said Korytoski. “His hat trick the other day made the game. He’s been working really hard. He’s a great guy to work with and he’s starting to find a bit of rhythm. I’m very happy for him.”
The Linda Vista, CA native lettered all four years at Francis Parker High School, winning C.I.F. Division IV Player of the Year in 2007.
Walker played collegiately at the University of California Irvine (UCI), where he majored in international studies. During his senior season at UCI, Walker led the team with 11 goals. Walker is the all-time leader in games played at UCI with 85 and finished his college career with 29 goals and 11 assists.
In 2011, Walker was drafted by the Chicago Fire, but ultimately signed with the Minnesota Stars. He won an NASL championship with the Stars in 2011. After leaving Minnesota, Walker spent time with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and OC Blues before joining the PROS in February 2017.
