Simon Rawnsley Named Mitre National Player of the Week
Simon Rawnsley of CD Aguiluchos USA has been named Mitre National Player of the Week following a hat trick versus OSA FC. Rawnsley brings collegiate experience from the University of Indiana as well as international experience in the U.K. to CD Aguiluchos as he wins player of the week honors for the second consecutive season.
Soccer News: CD Aguiluchos USA forward Simon Rawnsley has been selected as the third Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2016 NPSL season.
The Bradford, England native scored a hat trick in CDA’s 4-0 win over OSA FC on Saturday, April 16th. He has six goals in four games so far this season.
“Simon is a player who knows a lot about his position,” CD Aguiluchos USA President and Founder Roger Amaya commented. “He’s a complete forward, but the most important thing is his discipline and his desire to play soccer. He loves to play soccer and that’s the most important thing in a player. I hope Simon can serve as an example for the children and teens that follow our club.”
Rawnsley has a plethora of experience in the U.S. and abroad. He played collegiate soccer with the University of Southern Indiana before playing indoors with the Evansville Crush. In 2014 he played for Mezcala SC in the San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL), helping the club win the league title and winning the Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals.
Rawnsley has also played for Bradford City, Halifax Town, Bradford Park Avenue, and Kendal Town in the United Kingdom.
This is not the first honor for the English striker as he earned Mitre National Player of the Week honors and the PUMA Golden Boot award in 2015.
An up-and-coming coach, Rawnsley currently serves as the Bladium West Ham United International Academy and Pre-Academy Manager. He has already earned several coaching badges, including the West Ham United Academy Coaching Diploma and the NSCAA National Diploma.
“I know there is a lot of tough competition and some quality players in the NPSL so it makes me very proud to receive this award,” Rawnsley added. “I’m just really enjoying my soccer at the moment. CD Aguiluchos USA have had a solid to start to the season, which we are looking to build on. Individually I’ve set myself a high goal target for the season and would like to be competing for the league’s Golden Boot again. I want to give a big thank you to the staff, coaches, and fans of Aguiluchos as well as my teammates for making this possible.”
The Mitre National Player of the Week is announced every Friday during the regular season. The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.
