Youth Soccer News: US Youth Soccer ODP Thanksgiving Update
The US Youth Soccer National League 2014 ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional is over in Florida and here is the news from the competition
US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional concluded Friday at Spanish River Athletic Park in Boca Raton, Fla. with the 1997 and 1998 age groups. The five-day tournament featured elite girls teams in the 1997-2000 age groups from each of the four US Youth Soccer Regions.
Among the top leading goal scorers in the tournament were Region II’s Ryanne Brown and Emina Ekic from the 1999 age group, each with four goals. Region II exceeded by winning the most games out of any other Region, garnering seven wins in competitions across all age groups. Region II took the top of the standings in the 1997, 1999 and 2000 age groups, and Region I took the top of the standings in the 1998 age group.
The nearly 300 leading players that participated in the event were selected from US Youth Soccer State Associationand Regional level evaluations. Throughout the week, players attended training sessions and competed in matches against other Regions, in front of U.S. Soccer national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play.

With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, US Youth Soccer ODP, the original Olympic development program, is available to any player. US Youth Soccer ODP is the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and the majority of current and past national and youth national team members, as alumni.
Highlights from Day 5:
1997 Girls: Region II v. Region I
Region II defeated Region I 3-1 to get the best record in the 1997 age group. Elizabeth Parrilli and Parker Roberts each scored first-half goals to give Region II a 2-0 lead at halftime. Samantha Scaffidi scored for Region I in the 45thminute, but Parker Roberts secured the 3-1 Region II win with a goal in the 60th minute. Roberts’ pair of goals propelled her up to one of the age group’s top leading scorers of the week. Region II’s 1997 team also had the best record in the tournament overall as the only undefeated team with a 3-0-0 record and 9 points.
1997 Girls: Region IV v. Region III
The second 1997 Girls match saw a 1-1 tie between Region III and Region IV. Region III’s Erin O’Hearn put her team up 1-0 after finding the back of the net in the 39th minute. The match continued with the Region III lead until Reece Hummel scored in the last 10 minutes, evening the score for Region IV. Hummel’s goal also placed her as one of the age group’s top leading scorers of the week with two goals.
1998 Girls: Region II v. Region I
Region I took the top of standings in the 1998 age group. Their final match of the week resulted in a 1-1 tie versus Region II. Hannah Miller attained a Region II goal in the 24th minute, but Region I tied the game with Rebecca Rossett’s 39th minute strike. Rossett was one the leading goal scorers in the 1998 age group with two goals, along with teammates Jenna Bike and Myra Konte.
1998 Girls: Region IV v. Region III
Region III completed the tournament with a 3-0 victory. They defeated Region IV in the 1998 age group with three second half goals. Lianne Mananquil scored in the 49th minute, and Avery Batson and Kaylann Boyd scored in the 64thand 79th minutes respectively. The Region IV team also had a player who topped the age group’s leading goal scorers: forward Samantha Bruder with two goals.
