MLS Soccer News: Minnesota United’s opening match of its inaugural MLS season will take place versus the Portland Timbers on March 3rd at Providence Park.
“It’s incredibly exciting, to have two games in an environment, to go away first in Portland, it’s one of the best places in the world to go out to play a pro soccer game,” said MNUFC Sporting Director Manny Lagos. “It’s going to be exciting for the club, exciting for our guys and it will be a really fun day for the state of Minnesota.”
MUFC home debut will take place nine days later on March 12th as when welcome fellow expansion side Atlanta United to TCF Bank Stadium.
“To host at home against the other expansion team is always going to be a good story line,” Lagos said. “There’s going to be a connection that we’re always going to have with them because of the timing of our expansion into MLS.”
During the 2017 MLS regular season, each team will compete in 34 games, including 17 home and 17 away games. Each club will face their 10 conference opponents twice during the season with one game at home and one game on the road. Teams will also compete in select additional matches versus different conference opponents three times, and they will face each non-conference opponent once.
