Beach Soccer News: The 2017 North American Sand Soccer Championships is preparing for the 24th edition of the tournament with over 1,100 teams, including nearly 12,000 youth/adult players competing during the weekend of June 9-11 in Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Virginia. NASSC has hosted over 170,000 players since its inception in 1994.
NASSC is routinely used by the USA National Beach Soccer program to identify players for the National Team, competing internationally. The U.S. Beach Soccer National Team tryout was held by USSF during the 2016 NASSC festival and three US OPEN players were selected to the USA National pool and are now in training, including HRSC Elite’s Neil Harrison.
The 12 professional teams who will compete at the U.S. Open includes a mix of old and new competitors. Always a tremendously popular event on America’s east coast – this year’s U.S. Open will feature defending champions Team Pugg hoping to defend their title.
Alexandre Soares’ men lifted the trophy in 2016 after beating FBS FC in the final. Catalan side FC Barcelona finished third.
This year, Barca will be coached by Ramiro Amarelle, and they will be joined by a host of America-based teams. HRSC Elite, Tidewater Captains and VB Alliance BSC all hail from Virginia, while Team Canada will head south from Toronto to compete.
Completing the line-up are Go Beach Soccer, Great Lakes BSC, Maryzilians, New England FC, Norcal BSC and PA Azzurri.
The NASSC is consistently one of the biggest beach soccer festivals in the calendar, with an array of male and female competitions for all ages.
