Soccer News: Hammerheads Back On Home Pitch
Wilmington Hammerheads FC welcome the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. The unbeaten Rhinos currently lead the Eastern Conference table with an overall record of 6-0-2.
The Hammerheads are back on their home pitch following a two-game road trip at Saint Louis FC and Louisville City FC earlier this week. Wilmington was tough on the field, but Saint Louis was the only side to find the back of the net to ensure the 1-0 victory within the final minutes of the match on Saturday. Three days later the Hammerheads took the field against Louisville, dropping 3-0 in the first half. Wilmington was able to hold off the opposition in the second half, but fell short on tallying any goals of their own, keeping the deficit at a standstill.
“We all feel the pressure to end our losing streak and get back to winning ways,” said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. “We owe it to our fans and to ourselves. We’ll prepare diligently, scout thoroughly, carefully select the team, and go after the result.”
With eight matches accounted for so far this season, the Rhinos have only played two on their home turf and have allowed three goals overall. Rochester recently defeated Toronto FC II in stoppage time at Sahlen’s Stadium last Saturday, further securing the top spot in the league rankings above the Charleston Battery.
Saturday’s match at Legion Stadium will be broadcast live on Wilmington Hammerheads FC’s YouTube Channel.
Following this weekend’s match, Wilmington is set to host Chattanooga FC on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. ET for the second round of U.S. Open Cup. Flex packages and single tickets are available for purchase online.
