Santa Barbara SC Champions! Santa Barbara SC BU17 White team are Cal South National Cup Champions.
“Congratulations to Coach Rudy Ybarra and all the players on another successful Cal South National Cup Campaign,” said Billy Gallagher, Club Director at Santa Barbara Soccer Club.
Santa Barbara Soccer Club’s BU17 White won their 5th Cal South National Championship in six years as defeating Rancho Santa Fe Attack Green, from San Diego, in an exciting penalty kick shootout. The score after regulation was 2-2 and goals were scored by Benji Garcia and Tim Heiduk.
Santa Barbara SC BU17 White has beat Strikers FC Whittier B97, Santa Monica United FC B97 Blue Premier and California Rush 97/98 Nero in bracket play. The team then went on to defeat Fullerton Rangers B97 White in the Quarter Finals. In the Semi Finals, the team took on the DMCV Sharks BU17 Elite coached by Warren Barton, shutting them out 3-0. The Cal South National Cup games were played at the SoCal Sports Complex.
Emerging as the U17 Champions from the eight brackets in the Cal South National Cup is a great accomplishment.
The team entered as a winner – The Boys U17 White entered the Cal South National Cup after winning the US Youth Soccer National League in December. “The success this past weekend simply reaffirmed their status as champions,” said Gallagher.
Santa Barbara SC is proud of this group, and after missing out on 3 national championships in a row last season, the team was determined to “win their trophy back”. Hopefully making it 4 National Championships for Santa Barbara SC in 4 years.
The talented team of young men are looking very sharp and very hungry. The elite players on this team come together well under the guidance of youth soccer coach Rudy Ybarra to play as a disciplined, exciting and attacking team.
Santa Barbara SC Girls U17 White, qualify for the Far West Regionals after a Final Four finish in the National Cup. The girls competed fiercely in Saturdays Semi-Final Showdown with the number one team in the Nation, Beach FC. The girls worked hard and competed well to take the game to overtime after a 0-0 scoreline at the end of regulation. Unfortunately Beach FC were able to score in overtime and the Santa Barbara girls were unable to respond. The game ended with a very respectable 0-1 result.
The Club is also very proud of our girls U17 team that narrowly lost in the Final Four of Cal South National Cup, 1-0 in overtime to the eventual Champions.
“They have represented Santa Barbara very well. Congratulations to Coach Austin Reisenhoover and all the girls on what was a great performance and a strong 2014-15 season” said Gallagher.

The club sees potential and room for growth on the girls side and has hired Curry who starts May 26 as the full-time coordinator to help realize the opportunity. Curry will be responsible for overseeing all activities, organization and communication for the girls programs in the Club. Curry has also coached at the State ODP level in Idaho.
Curry’s experience also includes playing at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2005 – 2009) where he was part of the 2006 National Championship winning team.
