Soccer News: Jazmin Aguas scores late goal in 3-3 Week 7 tie in WPSL match
Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles women’s team saved a point at home with a 3-3 come-from-behind tie against SoCal FC on Saturday afternoon at San Yisidro High School.
The Xolas rallied from a 3-0 halftime deficit in the Week 7 match of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).
The draw takes the “Xolas” to a 3-3-1 record in the Pacific-South Division of the WPSL. The point keeps hope alive to reach nationals as it heads into the final two matches of the regular season. Yazmin Guzman, Carolina Jaramillo and Jazmin Aguas scored second half goals for the Xoloitzcuintles. Visiting SoCal FC took a 3-0 advantage in the first half with goals by Michelle Enyeart, Sarah Sanger and Alex Quincey.
Enyeart opened the scoring in San Yisidro. She took a long through ball down the middle, dribbled into the box and chipped the ball over the charging Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper, Itzel Gonzalez, in the 12th minute. Sanger doubled the lead for SoCal FC in the 23rd minute on a similar through ball pass from the midfield. Sanger controlled the ball on the left side and dribbled towards the middle. She slotted the ball past the goalkeeper into the far lower corner.
SoCal FC’s third goal came off a corner kick 39th minute. Quincy met the ball inside of the box with a header towards the center of the goal. The Xoloitzcuintles defense tried to block the ball with a slide but it only helped to send the ball to the corner of the goal.
In the second half, the Xolas came out determined to mount a comeback. Guzman scored tor Club Tijuana in the 52nd minute when she met a corner kick cross in the center of the box with a low powerful shot to the lower corner of the goal.Jaramillo made it a one-goal game in the 68th minute. She received a long cross from the right side and placed a powerful shot that bounced off of the crossbar before crossing the goal line.
It was Aguas who sent in the equalizer in injury time with the Xoloitzcuintles pushing forward. Aguas made a run up the middle field down before receiving a long pass in the air. She hit the ball after a bounce and sent it lobbing over the goalkeeper. The final whistle sounded shortly after.
Club Tijuana closes the regular season with consecutive games in Arizona against Phoenix Del Sol and FC Tucson Women (July 10 and 11). The top two teams in the division qualify into the playoffs (Nationals).
