Youth Soccer News: Team Building is an integral part of soccer training. For elite players, it can take the team to a higher level of performance. New youth soccer teams can benefit as well — a little team bonding can go a long way helping turn a bunch of self-interested kids into a team. Even the top teams around the world know the importance of team bonding and having fun away from the field. And, yes, it is simply good fun to get together and forge the bonds that are required to help players dig deep on the field.
Traveling for a tournament is also an excellent time to arrange an event – especially before or after the competition – and, it helps everyone see a bit of the area which creates those memories they will never forget.
Whether you are here in San Diego for a soccer tournament or are lucky enough to call the 8th largest city your home, Aquatica SeaWorld’s Waterpark offers a great environment for team celebrations and rejuvenating the occasional soccer-weary spirit.
The Best of Aquatica: While touring this water park designed to please the most discerning of teenagers and little kids, SoccerToday asked visitors for their favorite ride – and never heard the same answer twice:
The football team loved playing on the Lazy River (yes, trying to push teammates under the waterfall was a highlight). Several soccer players like the Taumata Racer… the high speed slide that zooms riders down a 375-foot slide and around a 180-degree swopping turn. It is a 6 person “competitive” racing slide where you race your teammates (or friends) to the bottom. Another popular slide is Tassie’s Twister, a large, green funnel looking slide. And of course, with more than 500,000 gallons of water, Aquatica has the largest wave pool, Big Surf Shores, on the west coast.
Private poolside cabanas are the solution for tired soccer parents and coaches and can offer teams a base to drop stuff off and meet up during the visit. Overlooking the wave pool, the premium Cabanas are wonderful and even have Internet for the working person who needs to check in and get something done while everyone else has fun on the rides or splashing in the water. And yes, there are magical-looking margaritas served in a pineapple that I wanted to try but didn’t and that just gives me one more great reason for going back! Lockers are also available for a nominal charge in case you don’t opt for the cabanas and want to keep valuables dry and safe.
Aquatica has a great group rate for soccer teams – For groups of 15+, the cost for players under 18 years of age drops to $26 and adults are $35 (that’s a savings of $7 Adult and $10 Child). They also offer a discount on pre-purchased meals but these must be purchased 3 days in advance to your visit. Perhaps the best option could be the Teams Picnic Package, which includes a private dining area and 90-minute endless buffet (kids can come and go from the buffet).
Want to break free from the soccer field and relax? For those lucky enough to call the Southern California home and want to go without a group there is a pay for one day and play for all season for $42.
