Silverbacks Look To Bring Fury’s 8 Game Streak To An End On Wednesday
Soccer News: Two confident sides will clash on NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports this week, as Ottawa Fury FC hosts the Atlanta Silverbacks.
Fury FC (2-1-0, 7 pts.) are unbeaten in its last eight games, and perhaps more impressively, the Canadian side has only conceded three goals during that stretch. The Silverbacks (1-1-1, 4 pts.) look ready to put Ottawa’s streak to the test, though, having picked up four points in their last two games.
“Wednesday will be a big opportunity for us to reach a position that we have never reached before, so we will need to show a lot of will and character if we want to get the full 3 points,” said Fury FC head coach Marc Dos Santos.
“We are all aware that Atlanta is a very dangerous team, and we need to be organized and take our chances to succeed.”
Even during the early stages of Fury FC’s impressive unbeaten run, the club was having trouble finding the net. That hasn’t been the case recently, though. Ottawa has scored seven times in its last three games, highlighted by Sunday’s 4-2 victory over visiting Indy Eleven. Irish midfielder and team captain Richie Ryan scored twice from free kicks, while forward Tom Heinemann and defender Rafael Alves chipped in with a goal apiece.
After finishing in last place in the Spring Season, Atlanta is beginning to find its way. The Silverbacks earned a shutout win over Jacksonville Armada FC two weeks ago before earning a point in a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
“We’re in the middle of a very tough stretch in our schedule but, at the same time, it is one of the most crucial stretches,” said Silverbacks head coach Gary Smith. “Taking points in these road games could be the difference in our season. We know, of course, that all of our matches will be tough, but we’re entering this stretch with very specific goals that we intend to achieve.”
With a win, the Silverbacks could pull within a point of first place in the Fall Season Standings, while Fury FC could grab the top spot in the standings outright if they are able to collect points.
The Silverbacks new-look attack with recent signings Pedro Mendes and Junior Burgos, who connected for a goal against the Strikers, will have its hands full against a Fury FC back line that has conceded the fewest goals in the league this year.
