The 29th annual U.S. Futsal National Championships, the oldest and one of the most prestigious Futsal event in the United States will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center from July 24 through 27
More than 150 men’s, women’s, boys’ and girls’ Futsal teams are expected to fill the Anaheim Convention Center July 24-27 for the 29th U.S. Futsal National Championships. With divisions ranging from Boys and Girls U8 through U19 as well as adult divisions for Men’s and Women’s Open and Over-35, the competition will offer something for everyone.
United States Futsal, which was founded in 1981, has been the governing body for the sport of Futsal in the United States for 33 years. The organization brought the sport to America in 1981, became a National Affiliate of U.S. Soccer in 1988 and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with US Youth Soccer in 1994.
“We are pleased to bring the 29th U.S. Futsal National Championship back to Anaheim, California,” said Alex Para, President and CEO of U.S. Futsal. “The U.S. Futsal National Championships have grown each year, and this year is no exception. We anticipate a record number of entrants as teams from across the country compete to be named National Champion, and for this reason we need the 150,000 square-foot facility to accommodate all the playing courts.”
The National Championships last convened in Anaheim in 2012, moving to Long Beach for 2013. Last year Safira F.C. from Massachusetts defeated MACSA from California for the Men’s Open Division title. This year Safira took the Northwest Regional Championship and look to repeat on the national stage. In the Women’s Open Division, Legends from California took their second title.
In the 2014 tournament, each participating team will play at least three bracket games before moving to the single-elimination rounds. First place teams will be awarded a trophy, and medals will be presented to players from the top three teams in each category.
