US FUTSAL 30th Annual National Championship
The 30th U.S. Futsal National Championship was held in Anaheim, California, at the Anaheim Convention Center between July 17 – 19, 2015.
The Anaheim Convention Center was ablaze with soccer fans and their families as the US Futsal 2015 Championship was underway. Ever since 1981, U.S. Futsal has been growing the sport of Futsal in the United States and has been sponsoring state, regional and national tournaments since 1985. Now, thirty years later, the 2015 annual National Championship was a huge success.
Heralded as the oldest, biggest and perhaps the most prestigious Futsal competition in the United States, this Futsal championship brings together teams from all across the country.
One of the proud US Futsal champions for 2015 are the Surf ECNL G15 team – whose team was called the SoCal Cruisers in the championship. Coached by Jerry McCorkle, all the players will be part of the U15 squad with the exception of Creighton.
“The young woman on the team were simply amazing,” said McCorkle. “The first game of the tournament marked the first time the entire team had ever played together. Things started a bit shaky but minute by minute, game after game they made the adjustments required to ultimately defeat a very good DV ACADEMY team. I was extremely proud of our girls intensity, camaraderie, and their ability to make the quick adjustments required for victory. The talent and high soccer IQ of this team was amazing.”
Alex Para, President & CEO of United States Futsal Federation (USFF) said, “This year marks our 30th U.S. Futsal National Championship, the biggest, oldest and a most prestigious Futsal tournament in the U.S and CONCACAF. After governing the sport in the United States since 1981, we have seen the sport of Futsal in recent years grow at a rate of 25% throughout our affiliated leagues across the U.S. Our National and Regional tournaments have grown between 25 and 40%. With this growth, the competition at all levels has increased, making it the most competitive Futsal tournament to date. This year we also had the participation of teams from two of our affiliated Professional Leagues, Major League Futsal and the NAPFL that will begin competition in the Winter of 2016.”
Para has pioneered Futsal in the USA for decades and has refereed at the professional level in leagues such as the NASL, MISL, ASL, and APSL.
