Cal South Teams Prove To Be The “Best of the Best”
Celebrating its 35th year, Surf Cup is a nationally recognized premier youth soccer tournament, rated among the top two in the United States. This year’s tournament featured more than 690 boys and girls teams in the Under-10 to Under-14 age groups. Players and families visited from 28 states and four countries (United States, Canada, Mexico and Guam).
Soccer News: Last year, Cal South teams won 11 out of 18 brackets in the 2014 Surf Cup tournament. This year, Cal South teams won 16 out of the 18 “Surf Super Cup” flights in this year’s prestigious tournament.
Due to the tournament’s expansion, this year’s age groups featured a top Surf Super Cup flight and a secondary “Qualification” flight. The Surf Super Cup flight featured the same top competition for which Surf Cup is known, and the new Qualification flight showcased stiff competition as well, but the difference was the prize for flight winners.
The Super Cup flight winners, win the right to be called the “Best of the Best” team in the nation, while the Qualification flight champions and finalists will not only win guaranteed acceptance into the next year’s Surf Cup, but also will be automatically included in the Surf Super Cup flight.
Cal South is extraordinarily proud of our teams and the tremendous showing they had in such a prestigious tournament.
“Surf Cup is considered to be the pinnacle of competition and a tournament to be aspired to by teams around the world,” said Derek Barraza, Cal South President. “Congratulations to Mike Connerley and Surf Cup Sports for once again hosting a successful tournament.”
