Cyle Larin Earns The Win For Orlando City With Brace
Soccer News: New York City FC fell to Orlando City SC 2-1 on Friday night. Kwame Watson-Siriboe gave New York City FC a 1-0 lead in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Mix Diskerud‘s shot from distance deflected off a crowd in front of the goal and Watson-Siriboe one-touched the loose ball into the back of the net.
Orlando City’s Cyle Larin scored twice in an 8-minute span in the second half. Larin tied it in the 62nd minute after heading in Corey Ashe‘s cross. Eight minutes later, Larin made it 2-1 on a counter-attack. Larin fed Adrian Winter on a two-on-one, but Winter’s shot was blocked by Josh Saunders. Winter was first to the loose ball and found an open Larin in front of goal for an easy tap in.
Larin was inches away from a third goal in the 74th, but defenseman Jefferson Mena stopped it at a goal line.
“It feels good being back on the field especially after being out for a few weeks,” said NYCFC Midfielder Thomas McNamara. “It feels good to have the ability to affect the play on the field but I am disappointed that we did not get the win.”
“I am pleased with the guy’s effort,” said NYCFC Head Coach Jason Kreis. I think they put a lot into the game and gave everything that they could. It was crazy how the second goal happened. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything like it. The ball seems to continually bounce the wrong way for us. Credit to our players. I just wish we could have walked out with at least a draw.”
New York City FC face the New England Revolution on Saturday, October 25 for their final home match of the season and Fan Appreciation Night.
