Fulham & Everton Set to Play in Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Super Group Final
The Gordon Jago Super Group Final of Dr Pepper Dallas Cup will feature notable English clubs Everton FC and Fulham FC this Sunday. Fulham defeated Brazilian side, Fluminense FC, 3-2 while Everton topped FC Dallas U-18 Academy to reach the final of the prestigious international youth soccer tournament.
Youth Soccer News: The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, will determine the Gordon Jago Super Group Winner this Sunday at 6:00pm at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Two storied English clubs, Everton FC and Fulham FC, will meet to determine which club will bring home the coveted Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Super Group “Boot and Ball” trophy to England.
Fulham advanced to the final by defeating undefeated Brazilian side, Fluminense FC, by the score of 3-2. In the 19th minute, Fluminense struck first. Derek Ribeiro brought the ball down on his left foot and slotted the ball past the keeper from just outside the six yard box. Fulham made the most of the injury time in the first half as they scored two goals in the 45th minute. A long free kick by Stephen Humphrys and a beautiful flick into a volley by Aron Davies put the English side up 2-1 going into halftime. In the 78thminute, Fluminense’s Caio de Olveira turned his defender with some nifty dribbling, and scored to level the match. Just minutes later, after a Fluminense player committed a handball in the box, Fulham’s Jon Thorsteinsson stepped up to the penalty spot and stroked the ball into the left side of the net to put the English side back on top, 3-2.
The second semi-final match featured local side, FC Dallas U-18 Academy and the English Premier League’s Everton FC. In the 31st minute, Everton’s Jack Kiersey put Everton ahead as FC Dallas was unable to clear the loose ball before Kiersey was able to tap the ball in from about two yards out. Just two minutes later, Delial Brewster busted through the FC Dallas defense and made the match 2-0 after a confident finish. With fifteen minutes left in the game, FC Dallas pulled one back from a set piece in the 75thminute. Devin Vega swung the ball into the box and it found the head of Hector Montalvo for the goal. But Everton would strike once more. In the 89th minute, Everton’s Nathan Broadhead scored the third goal for the Everton side to put the game away. He stepped into the box, sized up the defender, and fired the ball into the top corner for a beautiful finish. The match ended 3-1 and Everton will now play Fulham FC in the Gordon Jago Super Group final.
