Sky Blue FC Partners with CUMAC to Combat Hunger
Sky Blue FC has announced its partnership with CUMAC to combat hunger as the NWSL club continues to expand its association with community-based organizations. CUMAC was founded in 1985 and currently serves as the largest food distribution program in Passaic County feeding over 3,000 low-income individuals a month.
Soccer News: Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has created a community partnership with CUMAC, a New Jersey based organization that has been combatting hunger for more than 30 years. As part of the relationship, Sky Blue FC will host a CUMAC Night when the team welcomes the Boston Breakers to Yurcak Field on Friday, May 13th, with a portion of their ticket sales being donated back to CUMAC.
“For a variety of reasons, too many people find themselves in a situation where they are unable to get adequate amounts of food,” said Tony Novo, Sky Blue FC President & General Manger.
“Through the work of great organizations like CUMAC, many needy individuals are given an avenue to receive proper nutrition. We are thrilled to partner with such an inspiring group and will do all we can to assist them in their mission to fight hunger,” – continued Novo.
After Paterson school teacher Hugh Dunlop spent a few years collecting food from his local church congregation, CUMAC was officially incorporated in 1985. The organization has grown rapidly since those early days, now receiving thousands of hours of service from hundreds of volunteers. As the largest food distribution program in Passaic County, CUMAC feeds over 3,000 low-income people a month, relying heavily on donations from both individuals and groups. Other sources of revenue include fundraising events, grants and profits from their own local thrift shop.
“We are really excited to be partnering with Sky Blue FC!” said Lynne Bruger, CUMAC Development Director. “One in seven New Jersey residents still struggle with hunger, so we are always looking for new ways to share CUMAC’s story and get people engaged in our work. This will be a fun night to pull community together and raise awareness and funds to alleviate hunger while rooting on our home team ladies.”
As noted above, Sky Blue FC will host CUMAC when the team plays the Boston Breakers on Friday, May 13th, at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:00 PM, and tickets can be purchased through CUMAC at Cumac.org/Events.
