Cal South Governor’s Division – Olders Champions Crowned
Soccer News from Cal South – As the 2016 Sports Authority State Cup action continued, more and more Cal South teams continue to prevail, heading home with the sought-after championship trophy. A total of six teams etched their name on one of the championships as they finished in first place of the competition in their respective age groups. All games took place at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, California.
Craig Mues, State Cup Program Coordinator for the Cal South Sports Authority State Cup reports a total of 3200 youth soccer teams competed this year. Soccer is more popular than ever and there are tons of kids playing the beautiful game in Southern California.
Cal South’s youth soccer competition is one of the largest State youth soccer events in the world. Nearly 50,000 youth soccer player will have competed in the Cal South State Cup in 2016. In the Governors bracket, a 1014 youth soccer teams competed in the Youngers bracket — 183 more teams that last year.
After a long season, everything came down to the last match. Of the six teams, Barca Cantera BU14 and Matrix G99 extended their respective games to go to penalty kicks where they would end up being the winners of the series, facing the toughest competition in their division. The brackets are fairly competitive
