Abu Danladi & Abu Danladi Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
UCLA Standouts Abu Danladi and Jose Hernandez have been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list ahead of the 2016 collegiate season. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer that is presented annually to one male and female athlete.
College Soccer News: UCLA junior striker Abu Danladi and sophomore midfielder Jose Hernandez have been named to the Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy watch list, it was announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Danladi and Hernandez are two of 30 men’s NCAA Division I soccer players to be named to the watch list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, during the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Former UCLA midfielder Leo Stolz captured the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2014, becoming the third Bruin to be named National Player of the Year and first since the MAC Player of the Year award and the Hermann Trophy merged in 2002. UCLA’s other past winners are Sasha Victorine who won the MAC Player of the Year award in 1999 and Brad Friedel who won the Hermann Trophy in 1992.
Danladi returns for his junior season after racking up six goals and a team-high 10 assists (22 points) in 19 games last season. The Takoradi, Ghana native earned first team All-Pac-12, second team Top Drawer Soccer Best XI and NSCAA All-Far West honors. Danladi was one of four UCLA players to record 20 or more points and posted a stretch of six consecutive games with a goal or an assist.
Hernandez returns for his sophomore campaign after being named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2015. The Mexico City, Mexico native racked up 11 goals and four assists, posting a team-high 26 points in 21 games for the Bruins. In addition to his freshman of the year honor, Hernandez also earned first team All-Pac-12, first team Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI, first team College Soccer News All-Freshman and NSCAA All-Far West team honors. Hernandez finished one goal away from tying the UCLA freshman record for goals in a season and six points away from tying the UCLA freshman record for points in a season.
