Community Comes Together for Santa Maria Soccer Complex Proposal
One Action Community Coalition is pushing for the development of a new soccer complex in order to to revamp the city and provide its youth with a local spot to enjoy the beautiful game. The Santa Maria community has backed the proposal that will also aim to bring business to the city with tournaments and events hosted at the complex.
Youth Soccer News: The development for a new soccer complex in Santa Maria, California, has received the backing from the community that is in need of an outlet for young kids who are turning to playing in the streets.
Santa Maria is a huge soccer community that is in lack of a place to go for everyone to enjoy the beautiful game.
Due to many of the families in Santa Maria working in the agriculture industry, parents are subject to working long hours and cannot always meet the time requirements for after-school programs to allow their children to participate in soccer and other sports.
Santa Maria is a community constantly seeking new and innovative ways to stabilize their growth and to support their hard working community. A local park that could welcomes all players is in high demand, especially one that would provide the community with an outlet to play soccer recreationally.
One Action Community Coalition member Dolores Rincon and director Peter Flores are leading the charge for the development of a 20-field soccer complex in Santa Maria that will include three indoor fields and the rest outdoor.
“The city is extremely excited about the initiative and want to see the support of the entire community behind the proposal,” said Rincon.
Every sport from soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and baseball to football and cross training area always in need of field space and a complex with multi-use fields could be able to accommodate not only local soccer needs but drive business into the area.
Rincon and her husband run an after-school program at the local junior high school for kids who do not have access to playing competitive soccer.
“Soccer is a big deal for kids in the area, which is why we started our program because we wanted to reach every child that we could.” said Rincon.
The complex will provide teams in Southern California with an opportunity to seek out tournaments that are not affected by the high temperatures felt in Riverside or Fresno. The weather in Santa Maria remains cool throughout the year, which can relieve the concern of players suffering from heat exhaustion during the hot, summer days.
The development of the complex will also benefit the city by bringing in revenue for traveling clubs who will stay at hotels and eat at local restaurants during tournaments.
“There is so much potential for our city to grow in a really good way” said Rincon.
One Action Community Coalition will be hosting its next community meeting on September 7th at 6:30 pm at Santa Maria High School.
The last meeting welcomed various families from the community as well as the local news station that captured the unity within Santa Maria to develop the complex for all its citizens. The organization’s goal is to reach 5,000 signatures in order to push the initiative forward.
With the development of the complex, One Action hopes to provide a community atmosphere where all players and families can enjoy being outdoors together.
“We want for kids to feel that they belong at the soccer complex,” said Rincon.
The citizens of Santa Maria will have a local park for everyone to be proud of with the benefits of also bringing business into town.
