NWSL Soccer News: Boston Breakers Fall to Houston Dash
Houston Dash edge the Boston Breakers in a 4-1 victory led by Carli Lloyd who tallied two goals and an assist at BBVA Compass Stadium. Both sides have been eliminated from playoff competition as we head into the final week of the 2016 NWSL regular season.
NWSL Soccer News: Houston Dash defeated the Boston Breakers in a 4-1 win at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas Sunday night.
The first half of the match saw an intense matchup with both sides developing multiple opportunities. Two minutes into the match, Boston forward Eunice Beckmann struck a rebound off a shot from Kyah Simon that went just wide of Houston keeper Lydia Williams.
Houston had a pair of chances in the 20th and 23rd minutes, but Breakers were able to keep the score level.
Houston took the lead in the 26th minute off a Janine Beckie strike with assist credited to Carli Lloyd. Kealia Ohai doubled the Dash’s lead in the 35th minute.
Closing out the half, Houston forward Natasha Dowie struck a shot from outside the box, forcing Williams to tip the shot out of play.

The Dash maintained a 2-0 lead throughout most of the second half, but the Breakers were able to tally a late goal in the 76th minute courtesy of Krieghoff. A strike from Kristie Mewis hit the post and Houston defender Cari Roccaro failed to clear the ball. Krieghoff dispossessed Roccaro and lifted a shot past Williams to put Houston on the board.
Lloyd went on to score two late goals with the first assisted by Ohai and the second on a penalty kick.
The Breakers return home Saturday, Sept. 24, for their 2016 NWSL season finale. The Breakers will play the Western New York Flash (7 p.m. ET kickoff) at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. on the 24th.
Houston welcome Seattle Reign FC on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
