CR7 Chapter 3: Discovery – Nike’s Latest Boots
Nike has released its latest CR7 boot that highlights Ronaldo’s historic match with Sporting Lisbon that sparked Manchester United’s interest and signing of the Portuguese youngster. The matchup between the two sides would lead the Red Devils to sign Ronaldo a week later following a loss sparked by CR7.
Soccer News: On August 6th, 2003, at the age of 18, Cristiano Ronaldo played for Sporting Lisbon for the last time, as Manchester United left the match determined not to leave town without him.
CR7 Chapter 3 boots are in remembrance of that historic match that would change his career – and football – forever. Remember we are talking about soccer cleats — the high cut Superfly CR7 and low cut Vapor X CR7.
The setting was the inauguration of Estádio José Alvalade as Ronaldo embraced his number 28 kit. Ronaldo led his side with creating 2 goals, leading to a 3-1 victory over the Red Devils.
The impression he left on his opponents and Sir Alex Ferguson, the most winning manager of modern football, was so strong, that they urged their coach after the game to sign him.
The legendary manager was equally impressed by the rising Portuguese star, claiming he was one of the most exciting young players he had ever seen.
Less than a week later, the news broke that young star had signed with Manchester United for a staggering £12.24 million, making him at the time, the most expensive teenager in English football history.
“This game changed my career forever. Just 10 days after the match, I was already playing in England with my new team, embracing new challenges,” said Ronaldo.
The fateful match that propelled his career to the next stage is the inspiration behind the design of the CR7 Chapter 3: Discovery.
The colorway of the boot is inspired by Sporting Lisbon with the lateral side featuring silver dot graphics, as well as a subtle reflective wave design as a nod to the Mercurial Vapor I boots he wore in 2003.
The numbers 06, 08 and 03 (day, month, year) are etched on the heel counter to commemorate the date of his discovery, while a sparkling CR7 logo recognized the shining performance he delivered that night.
CR7 Chapter 3: Discovery Mercurial Superfly is now available, as well as additional versions including the Mercurial Veloce DF and Mercurial Victory DF – all featuring a Dynamic Fit Collar.
