Frank Lampard Concludes NYCFC Career
NYCFC has announced that midfielder Frank Lampard will not return for next season as his current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of 2016. The Chelsea legend has not announced his next move in regard to his soccer career, but the time to enjoy the Englishman on the pitch could be coming to an end with him turning 38 this past summer.
MLS Soccer News: Frank Lampard is set to leave New York City FC following the conclusion of his contract after making 31 appearances for the club and scoring 15 goals.
The 38-year old joined NYCFC in 2014 after spending one season with Manchester City following the end of his infamous Chelsea career.
Lampard assured his place in NYCFC history with his first-ever hat-trick against the Colorado Rapids on July 30, 2016 which helped NYCFC qualify for the MLS Playoffs for the very first time.
Lampard told NYCFC, “As my time at NYCFC comes to an end, I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years.”
NYCFC Head Coach Patrick Vieira acknowledges his influence at NYCFC as transcending even his stellar efforts on the field of play.
Vieira said, “Everybody talks about Frank’s goal-scoring record from midfield but I can tell you after a year of working with him, he brings so much more to a team than just goals.”
Sporting Director Claudio Reyna echoed Vieira’s praise and expressed his gratitude to Lampard.
“On and off the pitch he has been a fantastic ambassador. I would tell any young player to watch Frank, to see how he’s conducted himself over the last two years and to use that as inspiration as to how an elite, professional footballer should approach the game” said Reyna. “From the second he walked through the door, he’s set the example.”
