San Diego Sockers Win on the Road
The San Diego Sockers notched a road win over El Paso Coyotes on Saturday night as they bring their season record to 4-2 in the 2016/17 MASL season. The Sockers return to the Valley View Casino Center to take on the Tacoma Stars this Friday with kickoff set for 7:35 p.m. PT.
MASL Soccer News: The San Diego Sockers come out of Thanksgiving weekend with a road win over expansion side El Paso Coyotes on Saturday night led by newcomer Max Touloute. Referred to as “The Haitian Sensation,” Touloute had a game to remember, notching 5 goals on the night and adding 1 assist.
In a game controlled by the Sockers, El Paso Coyotes were left searching for their first win in franchise history. San Diego came out firing and went into the half with a 8-1 lead. The Coyotes rallied a comeback attempt in the second half, outscoring the Sockers by four goals heading into the fourth quarter.
The Coyotes cut their deficit to 9-6 with six minutes left in the match.
The Sockers regained momentum, scoring three late goals as the Coyotes were looking to level the match. With six different goal scorers, the Sockers claimed a 12-6 victory over the El Paso Coyotes.
Midfielder Matt Clare continued to add to his incredible assist number on the season, adding four in the first half. Captain Kraig Chiles notched 2 goals to his career tally (292), closing on Branko Segota’s San Diego Sockers record (298). Goalkeeper Boris Pardo got the start in goal and made 11 saves on the night.
Next week, the Sockers return home to the Valley View Casino Center after four consecutive road matches. San Diego will take on the Tacoma Stars in a matchup between the top two clubs in the Pacific Division.
