Youth Soccer News: A successful 2016 continued for Internationals SC as their U13 girls squad finished second at the 2016 Super Y League North American Finals that was held in Bradenton, Florida, from December 9-13. The tournament featured more than 2,000 players on 120 teams from across 15 states, including one Canadian province.
In addition to operating the country’s longest running national youth soccer league, the Super Y League provides approximately 500 teams and 10,000 players an unparalleled experience through its advanced player tracking, an established pathway – including the Regional Scouting Series and USL Experience – and opportunity to compete for a North American Championship.
“We finished as a top seed and a finalist and learned many priceless lessons on and off the soccer field while having fun and enjoying every moment of it,” Internationals SC Founder, President, and Director of Coaching Zdravko Popovic commented. “Our players have grown through experience and it will only make them better next time in similar opportunities. Being as young as they are, their future is bright and I’m convinced that they will win their share of championships.”
The Internationals SC began the 2016 Super Y League North American Finals with three consecutive wins, including a +11 goal differential.
On December 9th, Internationals SC edged FCV Annandale Elite Loudoun (Chantilly, Virginia) 5-0 with goals from Tanji Sarver (2), Jordan Fusco, Nyah Daniels, and Emily Brewer. The following day ISC defeated New Jersey Elite (Martinsville, NJ) 4-0 with goals from Fusco, Daniels, and Romiya Roth.
On December 11th, goals from Sarver and Emma Stransky led ISC to a 2-0 victory over Washington Spirit Baltimore (Baltimore, MD). Sarver also added an assist in the match. ISC recorded a 3-0 win over DDYSC (Decatur, GA) in the tournament semifinals thanks to goals from Fusco (2) and Stransky.
The team’s only loss of the tournament came in a 2-1 defeat to Atlanta Fire Elite in the finals. Fusco scored the lone goal for ISC.
“We cannot win each and every event, however, we can always walk away proud of what we have done,” Popovic concluded. “We love all of our members and will do all we can for all on and off the field. We are happy and proud of our Internationals Soccer family. Our 2016 Super Y team is a role model for others to follow.”
“The Super Y National event was a tremendous experience for our U13 team. They showed commitment and maturity in their preparation prior to the event,” said Internationals SC Director of Coaching Keri Sarver. “As a result, the players consistently performed at a high level while playing possession-style soccer and scoring 11 goals in five games, and only conceding two in the finals. We are excited to see how this experience inspires them to work harder and dream bigger in 2017.”
