SoCal SC Works to Finalize Roster for 2017 NPSL Season
SoCal SC is in the final stages of preparing for the 2017 season as the club looks to its opening match versus expansion side City of Angels FC next month. The NPSL club has hosted several tryout events since December, welcoming a range of international players in the process.
NPSL Soccer News: With the 2017 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season set to kick off next month, Southern California Sports Club works to finalize its roster.
SoCal SC hosted numerous tryouts from December to January with over 200 players from multiple countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Nigeria, Mexico and South Korea, being assessed by head coach Daniel Musatti and his staff.
“I feel very honored and happy to be part of the club as the head coach,” said Musatti. “It is an unique opportunity to contribute with a positive impact on the soccer scenario and a challenge that we will work hard to achieve the best outcome we can.”
The team started its preseason campaign in early February and 50 tryout players were invited to join the group, which also has returning players from SoCal SC’s inaugural season in 2016. The coaching staff plans on finalizing the roster, which will consist of 25 to 30 players.
“We had a great impression during tryouts and we are getting ready to finalize our roster now for the 2017 NPSL Season,” Musatti said. “We’ve selected a strong group of athletes to add to last year’s foundation of returning players, so we feel very confident about how it looks on paper and now it is about being assured that we put the hard work in so that we can deliver the results we are looking for.”
SoCal SC can also sign additional players in the upcoming weeks or during the NPSL season depending on the opportunities presented.
“We’re constantly observing other players, so perhaps we can add a few more to our team during the season, and also very well could be an addition or two prior to the start of the season,” said Musatti.
Over the offseason, SoCal FC has received full support from its owners and directors with several additions added to the club. This includes 17 fields to train (four with lights), a club house with a brand new locker room and a team of trainers with indoor facilities. SoCal FC has also established a strong relationship with Hummel and Gatorade as well as with local clubs from MLS and the USL to provide its players with direct access to the next level in the professional soccer pyramid.
“Our philosophy for this season is to develop players into the professional leagues,” said Musatti. “We have a young group with many talented players between 18-22 years old. We also aim to display a great performance, be competitive and reach further in the NPSL playoffs.”
A successful coach in both America and Brazil, Musatti is deeply passionate about the beautiful game of soccer as well as Futsal.
