Indy Eleven Await U.S. Open Cup Second Round Opponent
The first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is set as top amateur teams across the country put their skills to the test. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual competition will award this year’s champion a total of $250,000 with the runner-up receiving a total $60,000.
NASL Soccer News: Indy Eleven has learned its fate for the 104th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The North American Soccer League (NASL) club will enter the competition in the second round on Wednesday, May 17, against AFC Ann Arbor (NPSL) or the Michigan Bucks (PDL). Their first round matchup will be held on May 10th.
The “Boys in Blue” will travel for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff should AFC Ann Arbor defeat the Bucks. If Michigan advances, Indy will travel for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
The second round includes 28 first round winners and 24 Division II clubs (six from NASL, 18 from USL), with pairings made geographically. In the event that three or more clubs are from the same proximity, matchups will be made by random selection. Instances where a logical geographic fit doesn’t exist will be resolved by random selection.
May 17th will be the kickoff of Indy Eleven’s fourth appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
In addition to lifting the historic Dewar Trophy as champion, the tournament winner will also earn a berth to the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League, which runs from mid-February to early May.
