Charity Dash Fundraiser Started By Remi Zisselman Set For June 17
New York Youth Soccer News: Remi and her family hope that you will register if you live locally. And, how many youth soccer players raise $7,500 for a worthwhile charity when they are just 12 years old?
After Ike Zisselman was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2004 and died a year later, his son and later his granddaughters started raising money to help those with this rare blood cancer.
New Hyde Park resident Marc Zisselman, who volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Albertson Soccer Club from 2011 to 2016, became a fundraiser for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, raising nearly $6 million over a 10-year period through the charity auction that he organized.
“In 2016, I branched out on my own and created Libations for Living, a Long Island fundraiser, to raise money for the Mount Sinai Multiple Myeloma Program,” Marc explained. “All money raised at the 2016 fundraiser was used by my father’s doctor, Dr. Jagannath, to create a new research facility in Huntington, their first foray on Long Island.”
In 2014, Marc’s then 12-year-old daughter Lexi hosted Kick for a Cure at the Hofstra University Bubble.
The fundraiser for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation was Lexi’s bat mitvah project and she had volunteer help from the Albertson Soccer Club, the club she played for until recently transferring to the New Hyde Park Wildcats Soccer Club.
250 local soccer players attended the event and raised in excess of $5,500, in addition to a special friend who donated an extra $2,000, for a grand total just above $7,500 as the event was a huge success.
Raising money for multiple myeloma has now become a sister act as Lexi’s younger sister Remi, now 12 years old, is hosting a Charity Dash on Saturday, June 17 from 4 to 6 pm at Herricks High School in New Hyde Park. Remi was born eight days before her grandfather passed away. She plays for the East Meadow Soccer Club, which like Albertson and New Hyde Park are members of both the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) and Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA).
The Zisselmans anticipate several hundred kids ranging from 5 to 18 years old––soccer players, track and field athletes and those who just want to help a great cause––attending along with their parents to raise awareness for this disease. The family has already reached out to the LIJSL clubs in western Nassau County for support. The kids will take part in 100-yard dashes and be automatically entered to win great prizes, including an iPad, pizza party, custom jerseys and much more. All money raised will be donated to the Mount Sinai Multiple Myeloma Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
