End-of-Year Awards For Liverpool FC
With the Premier League season coming to a close, Liverpool FC has honored past and present players for their accomplishments on the pitch. In addition to Sadio Mané receiving Player of the Season, youth standouts were honored at the annual awards ceremony as well as former teams who accomplished past accolades.
Soccer News: Liverpool FC winger Sadio Mané has been named supporters’ Player of the Season at the Club’s annual Players’ Awards held at Anfield.
The Senegalese professional footballer who also plays for the Senegal national team is the top scorer for the Reds, receiving two awards, having also been named the First Team’s Player’s Player of the Season following his stellar debut season with Jürgen Klopp’s side.
Winners of other player accolades included 18-year-old defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who received Young Player of the Season after making his senior debut for Liverpool this season. Liverpool FC’s youngest ever goal scorer, Ben Woodburn, took Academy’s Players’ Player of the Year, whilst Wales International and captain, Sophie Ingle, received Liverpool Ladies FC Players’ Player of the Season.
Liverpool FC Legend, Roger Hunt MBE, was awarded LFC’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He was the admiration on the Kop for ‘Sir’ Roger Hunt during the 1960s. The prolific striker was bestowed with an honorary knighthood by Liverpool FC supporters after he was the only Red in the starting lineup when England hoisted the World Cup in 1966.
LFC’s Rome ’77 team were also honored with the Outstanding Team Achievement Award for their emphatic victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach and their unwavering devotion to the club over the years. Watched by a 57,000 strong crowd, the team led the Reds to victory in the 1977 European Cup final with a thrilling 3-1 victory to secure the club’s first European Cup title. The award was presented by former captain and now U18s manager, Steven Gerrard.
The final award of the night was the inaugural Special Recognition Award, presented to Lucas Leiva by club legend and non-executive director, Kenny Dalglish, as Lucas celebrates 10 years at the LFC this month.
