adidas Releases 2017/18 AC Milan Home Kit
With the 2017/18 soccer season already in sight, adidas and AC Milan concluded the Serie A campaign in style as the club’s new kit took the pitch for the first time over the weekend. The iconic uniform pays homage to past squads as preparation for the upcoming season begins now for the Italian club.
Soccer Locker Review: Few teams can lose on the field and still inspire ardent fans to proudly wear their colors, but AC Milan is one of those rate teams. Even when they have a poor season, their fans are glued to their performance. AC Milan has fans for generations — like a coveted gold watch handed down from one generation to another, AC Milan is a stellar club that has inspired loyalty from soccer lovers.
Now AC Milan fans have reason to celebrate — they will be playing in the Europa League next year and adidas Soccer has revealed the new AC Milan home kit for the 2017/18 campaign. The design invokes the club’s iconic heritage, taking inspiration from two dominant periods in history.
The first inspiration was the 10-year period from 1950-1960 when the club hoisted four Italian Championship titles. Taken from the kit design used throughout the 1950s are features such as the crew neck and the red stripes that runs down the middle of the uniform.
The width of the famous black and red stripes was inspired by the period between 1987/88–1997/98 where the club established itself as a dominant European power and expanded its global fan base. This decade saw AC Milan claim 17 out of the 29 trophies it has won in total.
The inspiration for the design is further developed by choice of font for names and numbers on the back of the shirt, which is similar to what was worn by the great champions of that era.
This golden period of dominance coincided with the club re-establishing its relationship with adidas and was used as the second source of inspiration for the 2017/18 jersey.
The kit is completed by white shorts and socks with red stripes. The jersey was worn for the first time in AC Milan’s final home game of the campaign versus Bologna on May 21st.
