As the new official Money Transfer Partner of Liverpool FC, Western Union will use its global cross-border digital transfer and payments platform to provide money transfer capabilities to the club.
Soccer News: Elizabeth G. Chambers, Chief Strategy, Product and Marketing Officer at Western Union talks with Goal Nation about the goals of the partnership. The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU) and Liverpool FC announced a multi-year partnership that will see Western Union, a leader in global payment and money transfer services, become an Official Principal Partner and the Official Money Transfer Partner of Liverpool FC.
Christina Scavuzzo: Why did Western Union choose to invest in soccer?
Elizabeth G. Chambers: More than any other sport, football (or soccer) has a truly global fan base and the ability to bring people from around the world together in the spirit of competition. Our sponsorships in football will enable us to send our message near and far, and engage with an active, digitally-minded and global fan base around shared passions.
We were excited by Liverpool FC specifically because our brand purpose and heritage are very much aligned with the club. Liverpool FC’s anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ reflects its shared values with Western Union – both organizations are driven by a sense of purpose, powered by the passion to bring communities together. We are proud to support a club and a sport that unites people from all over the world, and to celebrate sport as an expression of hard work, ambition and global opportunity.

We are proud to announce our agreements with the Liverpool F.C.. We also recently announced agreements with the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids and but that is all we will be announcing now.
Christina Scavuzzo: Where do you see this kind of investment going in the future?
Elizabeth G. Chambers: There is no end to the possibilities and opportunities available through football. We’re also talking about launching a global football tournament, the Western Union Cup in which Liverpool would play matches in the USA and Asia. But I stress planning is at a very early stage.
