US Youth Soccer does an excellent job of providing great youth soccer competitions all across the vast USA — here is an update on Day 2.
Youth Soccer News: The 2018 US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup is in its second day of competition in Salt Lake City, Utah.
While some teams have already secured their spot in Friday’s Quarterfinals, the fate of most will be decided Thursday for the chance to advance to the elimination rounds.
One team that is looking to seal its spot in the quarterfinals is 17U Girls Cheyenne Sting Gold 01/02 (WY).
The Wyoming side made it to the quarterfinals last year and are looking to build and replicate on last year’s results.
“We snuck into the quarterfinals by winning just one game last year, and this time around we want to earn it more,” said Cheyenne Sting Head Coach Jared White. “This is our third time here and the progression of what these girls have gone through with all their hard training has helped them get better and has been an amazing experience for them.”
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels.

US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup – Boys U13 Highlights
In a match filled with goals from both sides, Northbay Timbers 05 (CA-N) topped Heat FC 05 ER (NV), 5-3. Northbay started quickly as Alvaro Picon dribbled through the entire Heat FC team and finished his shot close range. After some back and forth action, there was a flurry of goals at the end of the first half.
Miguel Pina leveled the score for Heat and then-teammate Jose Martinez scored to put the Nevada side ahead. Pico equalized just two minutes later and then completed his hattrick just a minute later to give Northbay a 3-2 advantage to end the second half. Another flurry of goals started the second half.
Heat FC’s David Figueroa brought the two sides level just three minutes into the second half but Elvin Maldonado Lopez scored his fourth goal of the tournament to put Northbay back ahead immediately after. Just two minutes later, Osvaldo Real Delgado gave Northbay a two-goal cushion and the California North side held on for the victory.

After a scoreless first half, Selma Jamay FC 04 (CA-N) came back from one goal one down in the second to claim a, 2-1, victory over Washington Timbers 04 Reds 2 (WA). Timber’s goalkeeper Ryan Doyle had the brunt of the action on his side of the field in the first half, but managed to keep a clean sheet headed into halftime.
Jeremy Mohn scored his third goal of the tournament, just four minutes into the second half, to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead. Jamay FC did not hesitate to fight back and scored goals by David Beltran and Cristian Carlos within four minutes of each other to take a 2-1 lead. Jamay’s defense held and the Cal North team now sits alone on top of the 14U Boys Group D with six points.

Real Colorado Olympico 03 (CO) defeated Eastside FC 03 White (WA), 2-1, to seal its spot in Friday’s quarterfinals. Eastside took the lead late in the first half off a rocket of a freekick by Justin Hunter. Hunter’s freekick bounced off the post and goalkeeper twice and then bounced across the goal to Hayden Walters who smashed it home.
Real Colorado leveled early in the second half to put the two teams back on level footing. Adrian Gamueda got beyond his defender on the right side and hit a ball across the face of goal. Thomas Levy made a run to the front of goal and finished his teammates’ pass from close range. Real used that momentum to take the lead just five minutes later. Jack Blair sailed in a free kick from deep but the ensuing clearance attempt hit poorly off the defender’s foot and spun backward into his own goal.
Eastside fought for an equalizer but could not find an answer and fell 2-1.

PSC South Bay (CA-S) and La Roca Premier KP (UT) played to a hard-fought draw on the second day of play. In a game that could have gone either way, La Roca had the best opportunity to take the lead in the first half but saw a shot hit the crossbar, bounce down towards the line but the ball did not go in and the PSC keeper, Aylette Cisneros, grabbed the ball off the line. La Roca finally broke the deadlock in the second half when they earned a penalty kick. After stopping everything to that point, Cisneros could not get to Yira Yoggerst’s well-placed penalty. PSC started pressing hard for an equalizer but saw their next few attempts sail over the crossbar.
Isella Olivera leveled the score for PSC after a loose ball bounced to her on the top of the box. Olivera hit a high arching shot that sailed over the La Roca keeper. PSC almost took the lead on a misplayed header by a La Roca defender that hit off the bar and then later a Kaley Lopez shot rung off the crossbar. La Roca’s defense held on and the game ended 1-1. Each team now sits on top of the group with four points. The teams will both need to earn results in tomorrow’s matches if they want to stay in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Cheyenne Sting Gold 01/02 (WY) and Cook Inlet SC 01 (AK) played a tight game with the Wyoming team using two-second-half goals to earn a 2-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, both teams pressed for goals in the second. Gabrielle Laipenieks made a couple big saves to keep her team in the game while her counterpart from Wyoming, made a great 1v1 save to keep the score level. Cheyenne took the lead in the 72nd minute after an Alaska player couldn’t clear a ball over the top.
The ball bounced to Makyleigh Howard who boomed a shot in from deep beyond the keeper’s reach. Wyoming extended the lead late when Taylor Meyrick hit a hopeful shot from deep that managed to squirt beyond the Alaska goalkeeper bringing the final score to 2-0.

Sting Timbers 00/01 (ID) remain perfect after a, 3-0, win over Arsenal SC 00 (UT). Sting took the lead in the 22nd minute of play on an own goal. They had a chance to increase that lead when Madyson Smith spun her defender in the final third. Smith’s shot was a screamer but hit the outside of the right post. Timbers used two second-half goals to seal the deal and claim its second victory in two days. Erika Skindlov and Alexandra Medina each tallied their first goals of the tournament to help seal the win. A tie or a win in tomorrow’s game will guarantee a spot for the Idaho side in the quarterfinals.

Broomfield Blast SC 06 Prestige (CO) currently has a three-point lead in Group D but will be facing off against a LVSA 06 White (NV) side that is three points back and needs a good result in order to advance.
