Surf SC Girls 02 ECNL team coached by Danny Tonks are proud to be competing at the 2018 Girls ECNL National Final Four on July 6-7, 2018 in Richmond, Virginia at the West Creek Soccer Complex.
“Surf 02 Girls beat Ohio Elite in the ECNL Final Four to advance to the National Championship on July 7. Goals from Alanna Butcher and Kaylie Ronan were enough to get the win,” said Tonks.
“The game was a bit nervy, but as the game went on, we grew more confident and created more chances. Ohio Elite did a great job of making things difficult for us but I’m delighted for the girls that they came through with the win. Now it’s on to the National Championship game!”
“From the beginning of the season until now at the end of the season at the #ECNLFinal, these girls have never wavered in their hard work and personality,” said Tonks.
“We have kept a team culture of selflessness and high standards while trying to enjoy every challenge along the way.”
“This year, the girls have certainly had a lot of adversity to navigate through,” added Tonks. “They’ve never had to deal with so many injuries and absentees but this did not slow them down and they have never stopped. Their togetherness as a team has been inspiring for me as their coach. I continue to enjoy working with them and challenging them every day.”
As Tonks said, “These players have a unique personality as a team and I couldn’t be more proud of their achievements. It’s been a pleasure to be part of their special journey this year.”
“We have made the trip to Virginia with confidence and focus. We have been training from 6:30 AM these past few mornings to best prepare ourselves for the early morning games on the East coast.”
No matter what happens in Virginia these girls have represented the Surf SC with great pride.
“Now that they have made it to the ECNL Final Four and advanced to the final, they have proven their ability to their coaches, families, colleges and importantly to themselves,” said Tonks. “Now, we will just work towards earning the championship title.”
As ECNL says, The Girls ECNL Final Four is the culminating event of the Girls ECNL season, and reaching the Final Four is one of the most difficult accomplishments in female youth club soccer in the world.
