Meola played for the U.S. Men’s National Team on three world cup rosters and is highly regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the USA.
Tony Meola is an American soccer goalkeeper who protected the goal for the USA in three FIFA World Cups — 1990, 1994, and the 2002 World Cups. In 1996, Meola was drafted by the MetroStars — the team now known as the New York Red Bulls, and played in New York for two years before moving to the heartlands to join the Kansas City Wizards, today’s Sporting KC MLS franchise.
Meola was one of the extraordinary players who helped form the MLS and a goalkeeper who thrilled fans with his amazing saves.
