Now We Are On The Way To The 2019 Women’s World Cup Final …
Today is the day — The USA defeated England and sent the Lionesses packing out of the FIFA World Cup and now we advance to the Final. The USA is the only nation to have reached the semifinals of all eight of the FIFA Women’s World Cups since the inaugural tournament in 1991.
Alex Morgan and the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) won a tough match against England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ semifinal today, Tuesday, July 2 in front of a packed stadium of 53,512 fans at Stade de Lyon.
This victory secures the USA a record fifth appearance in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.
Looking at the entirety of the tournament, it has been a great 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France … especially now as the USA is on their way to competing in the Final this Sunday, after defeating England 2-1 in the must-watch, must-win match that just ended.

U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team’s head coach Jill Ellis has proven herself over and over again. This win was the 101st of English-born Jill Ellis at the helm of the USWNT. Only the late Tony DiCicco has earned more, holding the record at 105 wins.
Now the USA only has one more game to win to keep their title of champions. And, yes, while the rest of the world may be catching up with America’s power on the pitch, our women have the remarkable attitude and know that they have to win every game, every 1v1 to make their mark.
It was a close and very physical match between these two countries and a collective sigh of relief when the final whistle blew after seven minutes of stoppage time.
We will face the winner of the semifinal between the Netherlands and Sweden, which takes place this Wednesday.

England will play the loser between the Netherlands and Sweden on Saturday to determine third place victor.

Morgan scored a fabulous goal herself – a perfect gift to herself on her 30th birthday. She is the first player to ever score a goal in the Women’s World Cup on her birthday.
USA’s goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher made headlines with a hugely important save, denying England a penalty which could have equalized the score in the World Cup semis. The impossibly hard to replace Hope Solo, USA’s former long-time goalkeeper, may have found her match.

After today’s victory over England, the USWNT is now 39-4-6 all-time in World Cup play, outscoring opponents 136-38 in 49 games. According to U.S. Soccer, the 39 wins, 49
England’s Ellen White and Millie Bright both found the back of the next but Bright’s goal was disallowed. Bright earned two Yellow Cards and was sent off with the resulting Red Card in the 86th minute, leaving England to play with 10 women for the balance of the match. USA’s Becky Sauerbrunn also received a yellow card.
