Staten Island Youth Soccer League Donates 12,000 Masks Throughout the Borough
New York Soccer News: This is not the first time that SIYSL has helped New York City residents in need
New York City has become a global hot spot in the coronavirus pandemic as 50% of city residents being tested are positive and thousands of people in the city have died.
Over the past two weeks, the Staten Island Youth Soccer League (SIYSL) has distributed masks to the EMT’s stationed in Fort Wadsworth, 19 firehouses, Staten Island University Hospital, the Department of Sanitation and MTA bus depots.
Additionally, the league donated masks to Councilman Steven Matteo’s office, which gave 1,500 masks each to Carmel Richmond, Clove Lakes, Eger and Verrazano nursing homes.
”Thanks to the efforts of Treasurer Fred Cipriani and Development Officer Liz Morano, the league secured 12,000 disposable masks and distributed to our local hospitals, nursing homes, NYPD and FDNY first responders,” said SIYSL President Bill Smith.
”This is a donation valued around $9,000 from the league to New York City. We believe it is important for the league to support our community and our constituents, many of whom are nurses, doctors, medical technicians plus members of the NYPD and FDNY,” Fred Cipriani, the league’s Treasurer, stated.
Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) reaches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with nine leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees, and administrators.
