ECNL’s Powerful New Look
The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) has kicked off the 2020 season by unveiling its new logo and overall brand identity. ENCL has grown significantly and now includes more than 200 clubs representing nearly 50K players.
ENCL is a household word among elite soccer players and their families. And, as the president of ECNL pointed out in an interview a few months back, the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) touches the lives of so many more players than just those who proudly play in the league.
Focused on the college pathway, ECNL is the benchmark in youth soccer, especially on the girls’ side as their program pioneered elite player development in the USA years before the now-closed U.S. Soccer Development Academy (DA) ever decided to pay attention to young female players. The ECNL Girls was launched in 2009 to focus on the developmental experience of the female youth soccer players and succeeded in establishing a deep loyalty among players, clubs, and coaches. Even the Girls DA could not compete against ECNL in many markets across America.
College coaches all respect ECNL’s effort to make identifying potential collegiate players successful and easy, and the prestige of playing in the league is a seal of confirmation that the player is a strong candidate.
One unique identity and brand identity. For all players. It just makes sense.
But, even in the midst of the uncertainty of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, new leagues spring up. ECNL’s timing of launching a new brand identity is well chosen and is a well-executed effort to combine the brand to reflect the entire youth landscape of both boys and girls.
“We always want to do more,” said Lavers who explained the new logo was an effort to bring the focus back on the player, regardless of the player competed in the girls or boys ECNL.
Here is the ECNL release on their new brand identity:
The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) has officially kicked off the 2020 season with a bold new look reflecting the league’s history of changing the game, its leadership in youth sport, and the exciting future for its players.

“Our mission is to make the game better, and in partnership with the fantastic clubs that support our league and work with the players every day, there is no limit to what we can accomplish.”
Christian Lavers, President of The ECNL
The New ECNL Identity:
The league’s new identity will inspire excellence and growth in a new generation of players and represents the leadership, collaborative spirit, and innovation that define the league.
- The strong and modern player icon at the center of the badge symbolizes the player’s position at the center of every ECNL program.
- The motion and upward focus of the icon represent the league’s innovative programs and philosophy to constantly change and improve the sport.
- The classic badge shape reflects the league’s strength and history of leadership transforming youth soccer.
- The unique color schemes reflect the modernization of the league, with tailored programming and structure for each gender, but both united under one identity.
- The new league identity captures the symmetry of excellence and humility, exclusivity and accessibility, and freedom and community that is necessary to lead the sport forward. The development of the new identity was anchored by a guiding philosophy inspired by the league’s founding and past: “Born out of the belief in a better way. Continued in the ever-evolving pursuit of excellence.”
This philosophy recognizes the history of the league which has forever changed the sport and captures its foundational mission to Raise the Game for all players.
Today, the league also launches a new website, www.theecnl.com, to celebrate and reflect this unified identity, mission, and philosophy.
