In the world of American soccer, there was good news this week. The Major League Soccer (MLS) announced the upcoming schedule and for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.
2020 Major League Soccer season is the 25th season of the MLS and deserves to be celebrated.
Kicking off on Friday, Nov. 20, and culminate in the league’s 25th championship match, the 2020 MLS Cup scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m., the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs are the long-awaited end of the season games.
This has been a year like no other. With the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic looming and disrupting game schedules, it is a relief to the upcoming MLS Cup Playoffs planned. One question … will the MLS Cup have the same vibrant excitement as the MLS is BACK tournament earlier this year? In an expansion of the postseason, 18 clubs qualified for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.
After a wild Decision Day, featuring goals galore, triumph, heartbreak and even snow, the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs field is now set.
The big news this week on Decision Day was the Philadelphia Union securing the top seed and the Supporters’ Shield, and this means that the team will have the added benefit of playing at home throughout the playoffs.
In the West, Sporting Kansas City is proud to claim the top spot with a victory over Real Salt Lake. And, last season’s Supporters’ Shield winners, LAFC, is not fairing as well as expected, dropping down in the rankings to seventh, and will face the 2019 MLS Cup winners, the Seattle Sounders.
Also interesting to note, the Montreal Impact and Inter Miami CF eliminated D.C. United and Chicago Fire FC, clinching the remaining two slots in the East after an exciting set of games on Decision Day.

The Details on the MLS CUP: Seventeen postseason matches will be played after the November FIFA international window within a 22-day span from Nov. 20 through MLS Cup on Dec. 12, including an MLS record 14 postseason matches played over the span of 13 days.
Building on the excitement of last season’s Audi MLS Cup Playoffs that saw the highest-scoring postseason in MLS history (4.1 goals per match), this year’s playoffs will once again feature single-game elimination matches hosted by the higher-seeded club.
All 17 games of the expanded postseason will be broadcast nationally in the U.S. on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Deportes, FOX/FS1/FOX Deportes, and Univision’s UniMás and TUDN networks, in Canada on TSN and TVA Sports networks, and in more than 190 countries around the world.

FOX Sports will cover matches in every round of the postseason, from the Eastern Conference Play-In Round to 2020 MLS Cup. Consistent with 2016 and 2018, FOX Sports will air MLS Cup on FOX, the third consecutive time FOX Sports has aired MLS Cup on the over-the-air network. FOX Sports’ presentation of the 2018 MLS Cup holds the record for the most-watched MLS Cup since 1997.
A partner since the league’s inception, ESPN will also cover each round leading up to 2020 MLS Cup, highlighted by an ABC showcase of a conference finals match that will determine one of the two MLS Cup finalists. This marks the first non-championship MLS postseason match on ABC since 2006.
Univision’s UniMás/TUDN will again bring fans Spanish-language coverage of two Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One matches, as well as expanded coverage of the league’s pinnacle match, 2020 MLS Cup. The entire MLS Cup Playoffs and 2020 MLS Cup will be carried live in Canada – in English on TSN and in French on TVA Sports.
