US Youth Soccer’s Cal South Has Changes At The Top
The youth soccer landscape is constantly changing and leadership at the top level is always critical to an organization’s success.
Cal South former Executive Vice President Roy Carlson stepped up to take over the role of President of the US Youth Soccer state association last month. Bob Turner, the former Cal South President elected last year by a significant majority resigned on February 12, 2021.
Carlson was the Vice President of Youth prior to becoming the Executive Vice President. An attorney for Milberg & De Phillips, P.C., Carlson lives in San Diego, California.
“I am honored to be allowed to continue to serve the organization I have been a part of since 1982,” said Roy Carlson. “Like many, I have experience in many roles within the organization including as a parent, head coach, assistant coach, goalkeeper coach, team manager, referee, club director, club president, Pro+ scout, and state association board member.”
“Stepping into this role at a time when so many things are happening in the world and in the soccer community, I’m reminded of this quote by Winston Churchill, “Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.”
I look forward to making that climb with our members.
Roy Carlson, President Cal South
“Although these are challenging times, it is a great opportunity for us to provide enhanced support for our leagues, clubs and players and their families,” said Carlson. “We look forward to working with everyone to advance and improve soccer.”

Carlson was also a staff coach and scout for the Cal South Olympic Development Program from 2003-2010. Carlson has also been the head of the Cal South Hall of Fame Committee.
