Youth Soccer Action Recap
The Santa Barbara Soccer Club Boys U11 Blue team claimed the top spot of the Cal South State Cup Governors Division after Jack Ransdell found the back of the net from a Cason Goodman assist to take a 1-0 lead over SouthWestern FC in the final. Ransdell’s tally was enough to see out the full 90 minutes and crown the boys from Santa Barbra champions. Cal South’s State Cup is one of the most competitive you soccer events in US Youth Soccer.
Club director Billy Gallagher was full of praise saying, “This is a great achievement for the Players and Parents involved who have a had a wonderful season under the guidance of Coach Hans Diaz. Achievements like this are also a testament to the work that goes on behind the scenes by people like Greg Wilson, Youth Director at Santa Barbara SC, who are helping create environments that truly nurture the development of our young players.” Gallagher sited the club’s youth development as a factor leading to the successful championship run. “Santa Barbara SC has focused on the importance of level appropriate development for each of its players and teams since its formation. Players develop and mature at different rates and in different ways over the course of their youth soccer career. Cal South introducing a level appropriate aspect like Governors Cup to its State competitions was a move very much welcomed by Santa Barbara SC. It is clearly benefiting a great number of players who will now be more encouraged to pursue and stay with their passion for soccer,” said Gallagher.
Throughout the 9 games the Boys U11 played in the run up to the final, they posted a remarkable 8-0-1 record, scoring 21 goals and conceding just 4. A potent offense combined with tenacious defense certainly makes for a successful recipe and that formula was tested when the Boys U11 defeated defending champions, Oceanside Breakers, by a 1-0 scoreline in the quarterfinals.
