Albion Soccer Club Development Showcase for U7 – U10 Teams
SoccerToday News is pleased to feature Albion Tuesday – the youth soccer news series with San Diego’s Albion Soccer Club. Every Tuesday is Albion Tuesday. Building on the club’s established national recognition for player development, Albion SC has continued expansion of their youth soccer program through select partnerships and an affiliate program. This week spotlight: Albion Soccer Club’s first Development Showcase for U7 to U10 elite teams.
San Diego’s Albion Soccer Club held the first annual Albion Soccer Club Development Showcase over the weekend of January 11-12th in Ocean Beach San Diego. More than 100 youth soccer teams competed in the tournament, which exclusively focused on the U7-U10 age groups. With expectations of expanding the age range in the Showcase next year, 2104’s inaugural youth soccer event provided was highly successful.
“With the support for the tournament from Albion SC’s partners including PUMA, Gatorade and SKLZ, we where able to make a professional environment that you would not see at most college showcases,” said Noah Gins, Technical Director for Albion SC. “On every field, Gatorade was supplied for free to the players and teams had complimentary canopies with team benches. We wanted to create a professional environment and make this youth showcase a very special. We wanted every player to feel they were competing in a Showcase.”
The two-day event was highly successful with coaches and players agreeing. “We where extremely happy with the feed back from players, their parents and all the coaches at the event. The level of competition was great. We wanted to create the best possible environment for all the teams in the tournament and we were told we succeeded.” Tournament Director Wayne Crowe.
Along with the environment, Albion SC Development Showcase offered a great level of competition. “With most age groups having two to three divisions, each team could use the Showcase to prepare for State Cup,” said Crowe. “On the U9 and U10 Division, we had the SUPER GROUP; where the top team where invited to compete. This gave the teams the perfect preparation leading into State Cup.”
“I know first hand the level of competition in the BU9 and BU10 Super Group, We had great teams in these brackets and was like a Mini State Cup. I would be surprised if the majority of these teams where not in the final rounds, either sweet sixteen or the final eight of Cal South’s State Cup,” said Crowe.
“To win the tournament in these age brackets, there was a lot of good competition and games to be played,” said Crowe. “I know that the team in these Super Groups enjoyed the competition. It was great that all the teams were guaranteed 4 good soccer matches during the weekend event.”
“The opportunity to provide a high-end event with the total focus being on U7 through U10 players changes the paradigm for the better,” said Gins.
“For Albion SC Development Program, it was great to see our teams represented in a number of finals. These teams are the future of our program and clearly show how we are consistently producing good teams at the young age groups. We are excited to see these teams continue their development within the club,” said Crowe who is also Albion SC’s Development Director.
