Albion SC PROS Record Win Over SoCal SC
Albion SC PROS have secured a berth for the NPSL Playoffs as the San Diego club comes off a win at home over the weekend. The PROS head on the road for their final match of the regular season as they take on Corinthians USA this Saturday.
NPSL Soccer News: Albion SC PROS have advanced to the NPSL Playoffs following a 2-0 home win over SoCal SC on July 1st at Mission Bay Stadium. The top three clubs from the Western Conference’s Southwest Division advance to postseason play.
“The competition for the top three spots has been very tight this year — I’ve loved that,” said Noah Gins, Albion SC PROS Executive Director and General Manager.
“Competition is great, and with us peaking at the right time of the year, we feel very confident about our chances in the playoffs,” said Gins.
An aggressive opening saw the match remain a scoreless draw at the half. The referees called a combined 13 fouls in the first 20 minutes of play.
“[In] first half we were actually pretty good. We created a number of chances and didn’t give much away,” said head coach Ziggy Korytoski.
At the start of the second half, Korytoski subbed out the PROS’ newest addition Townsend Meyer for forward Tre Hayes.
Albion SC is a premier youth soccer club well known for its excellence in player development.
“Townsend is a complete product of Albion SC and is as good as it gets,” said Gins.
“After seeing Townsend in the game last night, I am confident he will make an immediate impact for Notre Dame.” said Gins. “We anticipate more and more youth players will be part of Albion PROS going forward with our sights set on developing professional players and confirmed placement of college players at the highest level.”
The start was a historic moment for the 12-year homegrown player from Albion SC. Meyer served as captain of every youth team at Albion [U9-19] as he heads off to play at Notre Dame for Bobby Clark.
In the 52nd minute, Hayes connected with Sean Callan for the first PROS goal of the night. After several shots on goal by Hayes in the minutes to follow, Hayes found the back of the net in the 62nd minute with a well-timed assist from Michael Turner.
“When I got in the game I just wanted to be a nuisance the whole time,” said Hayes. “I was blessed enough to do that and come away with a goal.”
After their second clean sheet of the season against SoCal SC, the PROS now prepare for their final regular season match on the road against Corinthians USA on Saturday, July 8, versus Corinthians USA.
“Going into Corinthians, obviously we want to max out with our points and make sure we put ourselves in a position to be that sixth seed if not even a little bit better,” said Korytoski. “[Looking ahead to] playoffs, we know that we’re a good team, that we can beat anyone in the country on any given day. We have that much depth and talent on our roster.”
