While 16,872 elite youth soccer players traveled an amazing estimated 53,699,588 miles hoping to take home the highly coveted 2017 Surf Cup trophy — local San Diego Albion SC teams earned the right to compete in numerous finals and claimed victory in the Boys 2004 U.S. Soccer Development Academy bracket.
“To have one team in the final at Surf Cup is a great accomplishment — but to have a team represented in each USSDA age group showcases Albion SC’s pathway and ability to develop players and produce top teams,” said Noah Gins, CEO and Executive Director of Albion SC.
“While tournament results at the younger ages are not important nor stressed at Albion, these accomplishments at these ages is a direct reflection of our work in Albion SC’s player development program — and is where we strive to be with all of our teams.”
“Our Albion USDA is pushing to be the best in the country and I am very proud of our players,” said Gins.
“The success of the Albion SC’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy (DA) program was clear at this year’s Surf Cup,” said Wayne Crowe, Director of Soccer at Albion SC.
“I am very proud of our Albion players — and, we are looking forward to the DA season starting soon. Winning Surf Cup is a wonderful accomplishment for these talented boys,” said coached Billy Garton, the former Manchester United defender.”The Albion SC B04 USSDA team is proud to be Surf Cup champions.”
“Albion provides youth soccer players from 6 years old to 18 years old with a real pathway for success,” said Crowe. “We have goals and objectives for each player and team.”
“Albion SC prides itself on player development,” said Gins whose club has earned national recognition for developing homegrown talent. “We have consistently developed high-level youth soccer players for many years — and, we are proud of our Albion alums who include homegrown MLS LA Galaxy‘s Ariel Lassiter.”
Why were Albion SC teams so successful competing in the 2017 Surf Cup?
“We are in the pre season stages of the year with each USSDA team and used the competition and experience from Albion Cup National Showcase in mid-July,” said Crowe. “With the daily focus on player development and team work in training sessions, our teams were well prepared for success at Surf Cup — and this is part of the road map for our year.”
“We look forward to the journey ahead and this was a great way to start the pre-season program of USSDA teams,” said Crowe. “We take great pride — as a staff — in working closely together and supporting each other and all the Albion SC teams.”
“To see all our Albion teams reach the finals in Surf Cup — at the highest level and against top competition — proves the strength and consistency of our program,” said Gins.
