The boys started off the tournament with a 1-1 tie against BOCA JUNIORS OC WHITE, followed by a 3-1 win against STRIKERS FC SOUTH COAST. The boys then shut out FREEDOM FC KRUGLER 2-0 sending them to the semi-finals where they defeated LA GALAXY ACADEMY 3-2. The boys finished the tournament undefeated with a 2-0 win against FC GOLDEN STATE, crowning them the 2016 Champions.
This 2002 boys team will become the USSF Development Academy U14 team in a few short weeks and is off to a strong start with their victory at the MCFC Americas Cup. Holohan will coach this team.
“This was the first event for our new USDA 2002s 03s and 04s,” said Holohan. “We have been training with the new group for less than two months and it is always very nice to be rewarded on the field with all USDA teams in the final and the 02s wining in the MCFC Americas Cup final against a tough team like FC Golden State.”
“The competition at the MCFC Americas Cup was very good and this soccer tournament gave us a great look at how our team stands up compared to others. Obviously, we are very pleased with our teams and our players’ development so far. Going undefeated through the tournament was great for the 2002s,” said Holohan.
“The Albion SC 02 team has really bought in our club’s training. This was probably most evident in the semi final with our comeback from 2-0 down against the LA Galaxy USSD Development Academy 02 team. I am very proud of our team,” said Holohan. “Now, we will get back on the training ground and further prepare for the USSDA season. Albion SC’s success at the MCFC Americas Cup is a great start to push on from and become even better.”
