Algonquin United Take Boys U12 Arch Cup Platinum
New York Youth Soccer News: This is Algonquin’s first championship in a statewide competition
Algonquin United of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL) defeated the Smithtown Avalanche of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL), 3-1, to win the Boys-Under-12 Arch Cup Platinum. This championship game in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) was played on June 9 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
David Cruz scored two goals and Dominic Pineda added one to bring the Arch Cup to Newburgh.
Algonquin coach Eric Vargas said, “I loved the passion of our kids, who also have a lot of talent.”
Smithtown received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. The namesake of the award, who died in 2016, was inducted into the Halls of Fame of the LIJSL and Eastern New York plus was honored as a Life Member by U.S. Soccer. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
