Youth Soccer News: More than 2,100 boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years old are gearing up for the eighth edition of the Barça Academy World Cup that is set to kick off in the coming weeks. FC Barcelona will host standout Barça Academy players from all five continents at its facilities from April 15th to the 18th.
The event will organize a total of 650 matches across four days of competition, with teams from 51 Barça Academies and Barça Academy Camps.
A total of 188 teams will be attending, 16 more than last year. In addition, there will be 23 different countries represented at the event, one more than in 2018.
Three new countries will be making their debut at the tournament, including Mexico (Barça Academy Puebla), Zambia (Barça Academy Lusaka) and Costa Rica.
Similar to last year, there will be three different venues: the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the Miniestadi and its annexed fields and CEM Arístides Maillol.
The opening ceremony will welcome 8,000 people, athletes, and families, to Miniestadi on the morning of Monday, April 15th.
Once concluded, matches kick off for four different age groups: U8, U10, U12, and U14. The finals will be played on Thursday, April 18, followed by the trophy ceremony.
The tournament can be followed on FC Barcelona’s official App, available for Android or IOS. Many of the games will also broadcast on BarçaTV with in-depth coverage on Barça Academy social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The Barça Academy is FC Barcelona’s own soccer school, whose main purpose is the comprehensive training of promising youth players.
Barça Academies employ the same methodology as the first team, with creative, attack-minded play and a heavy focus on the club’s values of humility, effort, ambition, respect, and teamwork. FC Barcelona has launched a total of 49 Barça Academies around the world, including the Barça Academy Pro in New York and the Barça Residency Academy in Arizona.
