Empire State Building to Shine for Soccer
The Empire State Building will shine in honor of two events in the coming days as the MLS Cup Final prepares for kickoff and UNICEF’s 70th anniversary will be Monday. The 21st MLS Cup will be held on Saturday, December 10th.
Soccer News: The Empire State Building will shine in the colors of Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC on Friday, December 9th to commemorate the 2016 MLS Cup.
The world-famous tower lights will be split, with the North/South sides of the building lit in green in honor of the Sounders, while the East/West sides will shine red in honor of Toronto FC.
The second lighting of the Empire State Building will be held on Monday, December 12th when UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham will illuminate the tower lights blue to mark UNICEF’s 70th anniversary. UNICEF has worked in the world’s toughest places to bring life-saving aid and long-term support to children whose lives and futures are endangered by conflict, crises, poverty, inequality and discrimination.
Beckham has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for 11 years, and, in February 2015, launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to help protect children in danger. Beckham has committed to using his powerful global voice, influence and connections to raise vital funds and create lasting positive change for children.
Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC will play in the MLS Cup on Saturday, December 10th at 8:00 p.m. ET.
