BVB Welcome André Schürrle to Signal Iduna Park
The money of soccer – Andre Schurrle’s combined transfer fees are quite steep and have made him surprisingly the most expensive German footballer of all time — Borussia Dortmund continue to add to their roster with 25 year old André Schürrle who is set to join the Bundesliga club following the announcement of the return of Mario Götze on Thursday.
The German international makes the transfer from VfL Wolfsburg who will not see European football this season as BVB bolster their roster during a summer of welcomes and goodbyes.
Soccer News: Following the capture of Mario Götze (24), eight-time German champions Borussia Dortmund have secured the signing of a further German international. André Schürrle (25) has joined BVB from VfL Wolfsburg with immediate effect having put pen to paper on a contract running until 30 June 2021. That means the two players directly responsible for scoring the goal that settled the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina and sealed a fourth title for Germany will now hit the goal trail together in black and yellow.
“André Schürrle is a German international with outstanding attacking prowess, is an excellent passer of the ball who also works intelligently in defensive play. Despite only being 25 years of age, he possesses a great deal of international experience. His qualities will prove very valuable for our team”, said Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.
Schürrle’s record makes for impressive reading: the attacking midfielder has scored 48 goals in 174 Bundesliga appearances and weighed in with 29 assists. In his 55 international outings for Germany he has found the net on 20 occasions.
“Borussia Dortmund is one of the top clubs in Europe with a strong and extremely exciting squad. From my own experience, I know how much power BVB develop working together with their fans and I’m very much looking forward to being part of that rather than just an opponent in awe. I want to celebrate success with Borussia Dortmund in the coming years and can hardly wait to start training and show everyone that it was the right move to sign me”, said Schürrle.
Schürrle joined Wolfsburg from Premier League club Chelsea FC in February last year and really showed his class after the winter break following an injury-plagued first half of the season. With nine goals to his name, midfielder Schürrle was the fourth-highest scorer between January and May in the Bundesliga.
