Borussia Mönchengladbach and International Soccer Academy Launch Groundbreaking Scholarship Opportunity for a Super talented Youth Player

20 Elite U.S. youth soccer players to train in Germany with Bundesliga coaches through immersive, full-season residential academy partnership … One Player Will Be Fully Funded

Elite U.S. youth soccer player born in 2008 or 2009 invited to apply for all-expenses-paid, 9-month Bundesliga training residency in Germany — tuition-free opportunity to train like a pro at a top European club

In a bold move to expand elite player development opportunities for North American talent, International Soccer Academy has partnered with Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Mönchengladbach to launch a fully funded scholarship for one exceptionally gifted American player (born in 2008 or 2007) for the 2025–26 season.

As of April 10, 2025, Borussia Mönchengladbach is ranked 6th in the Bundesliga standings with 44 points after 28 matches.  They are scheduled to play SC Freiburg, who are currently in 7th place with 42 points, on April 12, 2025.

This groundbreaking initiative breaks the pay-to-play mold by offering a complete 9-month residential soccer academy experience in Germany — tuition-free. The scholarship covers housing, training, kits, meals, and academic support — everything except the flight to and from Germany.

“This is a game-changer,” said Diane Scavuzzo, Co-Founder of International Soccer Academy. “For the first time, we are offering a fully funded spot in Europe — providing true access to world-class development for the most talented and dedicated youth soccer player, regardless of the family’s financial background.”

The selected player will join the Borussia Mönchengladbach Integrated Academy, where they will live and train like a pro under the guidance of UEFA-licensed coaches from one of Germany’s most respected Bundesliga clubs.

“We are building a real bridge between Europe and North America,” said Ronald Virkus, Managing Director of Sport at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “This initiative removes barriers and provides access to an elite development environment few ever experience.”

“Moving to Germany to play for Borussia Mönchengladbach was a life-changing experience that elevated my game and opened doors I hadn’t imagined. “If you have the talent and the drive, we want to see you,” said Dr. Stefan Stegemann, CEO of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

This Is For the Dedicated Youth Soccer Player With Big Dreams

Only one full scholarship will be awarded, but it could be the opportunity of a lifetime for the right player. If you’re a driven, technically gifted player with ambition and the courage to train in Europe, this is your moment.

“This isn’t just about training in Europe — it’s about creating real player pathway,” said Scavuzzo. “If you believe in yourself and have the talent to back it up, apply. You could be the next success story.”

Please note: While only one full scholarship (excluding international flights) will be awarded, limited roster spots remain for other top players. All players must be evaluated and approved by both International Soccer Academy and Borussia Mönchengladbach to ensure they meet the program’s high standards. If you’re serious about developing at the highest level, we encourage you to apply—scholarship or not.

This collaboration creates a direct pathway for top U.S. youth players to develop their skills at the highest level, offering a rare opportunity to train and compete within the club’s renowned academy system.

In January 2025, International Soccer Academy and Borussia Mönchengladbach announced the formation of an Integrated U18 Academy Team, enabling top American players born in 2008 and 2009 to train and compete within the club’s renowned academy system. This initiative provides a comprehensive 9-month residential program in Germany, covering housing, training, kits, meals, and academic support.

“Every youth soccer player comes to us with a big dream, and we immerse them in a professional environment and work to develop their skills to the highest level. We are excited to see what the elite players at Gladbach will achieve,” said Loewen.

“This player development program is unparalleled, and our players don’t visit Europe. They live it. We are so proud to offer this scholarship, which will open the door to a player who deserves it most,” he added.

“This partnership with International Soccer Academy reflects Borussia Mönchengladbach’s holistic approach to youth development,” said Virkus, Managing Director of Sport at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “Living and training in Germany provides young players the opportunity to learn from one of the most competitive football cultures and grow personally by experiencing a different way of life.”

“We are building a real bridge between Europe and North America. This initiative removes barriers and provides access to an elite development environment few ever experience,” Virkus added.

“Partnering with Borussia Mönchengladbach is a testament to our dedication to creating unparalleled opportunities for North American talent. We have been scouting elite youth soccer players for the U18 Integrated Academy at MLS Academies, MLS Next and ECNL Boys showcases and will be attending the adidas Cup this weekend in Florida at IMG,” said Loewen.

The U18 academy team will have access to BORUSSIA-PARK’s modern infrastructure, including natural and artificial turf fields, specialized training facilities, and a cutting-edge Performance Center shared with the first team.

“Identifying and nurturing talent is at the heart of what we do at Borussia Mönchengladbach,” said Steffen Korell, Scouting Director for Borussia Mönchengladbach. “The U.S. is home to many promising talents, and we’re excited to identify players who fit our club’s philosophy and playing style.”

“Through this partnership with International Soccer Academy, we aim to give young players from the United States the chance to live and train in this enriching environment. Germany is not just a leader in football development; it offers a lifestyle emphasizing structure, community, and growth. This is about creating a pathway for athletic excellence while also preparing these young men for success in all aspects of life,” said Philipp Havermann, Head of Internationalization and Brand Partnerships for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“International Soccer Academy started creating a bridge across the Atlantic for elite youth soccer players in 2020, and we are so proud to work with Borussia Mönchengladbach,” added Scavuzzo.

Patrick Weiser, Head of European Sports at International Soccer Academy, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “Borussia Mönchengladbach is one of the most iconic clubs in German football, known for its rich history and commitment to excellence. For these young American players, the chance to train and compete in such an elite environment is an extraordinary opportunity that could shape their futures.”
