Sockers Veteran Takes Place Of MASL MVP
The U.S. National Arena Soccer Team announced a change in their 15-man WMF World Cup roster prior to the start of Group A play in Ontario, California. MASL MVP Leo Gibson of the Missouri Comets has decided not to participate in the tournament and will be replaced by Sockers midfielder Brian Farber.
Gibson cited personal concerns, an upcoming wedding and the rigor of the 2014-15 MASL season as his decisions to remove himself from the Team USA roster.
Farber, a finalist for team selection, joins Team USA looking for the capper to what was an injury-altered season with the San Diego Sockers. A knee issue removed Farber from the San Diego lineup for nine games during the middle of the season, but he came on strong at the end of the year recording seven points during a four-game stretch, and a goal with an assist in the playoff loss to Las Vegas. On the season Farber scored six goals and six assists (twelve points) in eleven games.
The US National Arena Soccer Team opens their WMF World Cup Group A play on Monday when they take on Kazakhstan at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Group play continues Tuesday against El Salvador, and Wednesday in San Diego against the Czech Republic.
Tickets to all WMF World Cup matches can be purchased online.
